Team History

The Olympic Club team dominated the northern California field in the early days, and in 1916 the San Francisco Soccer League was organized with The Olympic Club among the eight charter members. Olympians won their first California states title in 1921 and since then have won the league title 14 times, and have finished in the runner-up spot ten times.

The 1932 team accomplished a then unprecedented double by winning both the city and state titles under the coaching of John Young. In 1933 an all-star San Francisco team, which included Olympians Ted Thorton, Carl Wolters, Bob Thompson, and K.B. Hansen, met and defeated an all-star aggregation from Los Angeles in a four-game series. The 1932-33 team won the league title, and boosted the Olympian record to 41 victories against three defeats and 12 ties. The team went on to win the /state Cup for the second year in a row.

The following year Olympic booters won the city title for the fifth straight time, defeating the rovers, 2-0, in the decider.

Olympic Club soccer enthusiasts continued their competition through the war years at a slackened pace, but in 1946 again came to the fore when they won the State Cup by downing the Los Angeles Scots, who had won the title five times.
